History
Fanta has a surprisingly unique origin story. It was created in Germany during World War II in 1940 by Max Keith, the head of Coca-Cola Deutschland. Because trade embargoes made it impossible to import the syrup needed to make Coca-Cola, Keith formulated a new beverage using available local ingredients like apple pomace and whey. The name "Fanta" was inspired by the German word for imagination, Fantasie. The modern orange-flavored Fanta we know today was later developed in Naples, Italy, in 1955.
